Our basement is getting a HUGE makeover

Above is the view from the bottom of the stairs looking into the big room that was. Straight ahead is the doorway to J's room, which peels off to the right and snakes back towards the viewpoint. There is a built in closet area as well as a nook for a bed which is well lit for, well, Lit.
A view from the bed nook in J's room looking toward the front of the house. Let there be light, yes! Natural light! The windows will be festooned with booby-traps to hinder midnight forays into the neighborhood and beyond. The floor is being tiled right now ($$$OUCH$$$) All the wiring has been updated, we tore out the cold air returns that bumped down so low, and replaced the "insulation" (read: coal dust sponges) in the ceiling with nice pink fluffy cotton candy. It's like being at the fair.
A view from A's room, looking through her entry door toward the common area and J's entry door in the back left. Note the delicious amount of light in here.
A view from A's walk-in closet area looking at the front of the house. My god those holes are deep, who could dig those out by hand using 5 gal. buckets and a hammer drill? (Yes, the wife and I are guilty as charged...) The window seats are being tiled as well, and will have big cushy pillows snoodled around for lazing and reading and not sneaking out, EVER. That egg-sac looking light bulb was replaced with a handsome little number, all matching in all rooms.
The common area is a funny little "L" shape, creating a nice nook for linens and blankies, and a larger area with outlets set up for a desk and the old computer (merely the eMac, poor, poor kids...) We lost our messy storage room, and so will have to downsize quite a bit. Good in theory, but always tough to pull the trigger on when it comes time. Maybe next spring...

A driveway appears!

Who lives here?  Two people who loves them a driveway, that's who.
This is the path Amy and I stroll down on the way to the horseless carriage.  I tap the brim of my smart cap to passersby with the tip of my sauntering cane.  Amy's mysterious smile peers from 'erneath her gossamer veil.  The chaps who meet her eye bumble about, fall into man-holes, place snuff into their eye-hole, cigarettes drop from gaping mouths.  Ah! we arrive at the carriage.  Let us roll through a ticker-tape parade to the opera!  Huzzah!

That's Bob.  He loves to swear and smoke cheap cigarettes.

SMOOOOOOTH!

A very patient friend helped with the kids during construction.

Hello Kitty

Here are the new additions to the family,
Gaby and Greta are about seven weeks old and quite skinny. Both are female so Papa is completely surrounded by the gender. They are living in our bedroom until we can get them safely acquainted to Geisha and Gracie- this may take a while! They are very cute and already have gained a bit of weight.

Gracie says hello too!

We can't leave out Miss Geisha!

Good Morning Belize

Here is "Flat Jude" learning about the banana blossom. He also relaxed with a cool soda and lounged in the sun.

We are preparing for a brief trip to Belize City tomorrow. We will drive the Volkswagen up to Belmopan so the mechanic can give her a check up in preparation for the long drive north in July.

Happy Easter

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter Sunday. I don't have any cute kid photos, so how about a coy elderly cat posing with an angel wing begonia? It was a gorgeous day in the mountains - the neighbors burned the old grass along the driveway and half of my field and I started trying to remove all the sand and rocks they'd plowed onto my lawn. They're trying to talk me into keeping chickens since I have this perfectly usable chicken coop . . . once one factors in the cost of feed, and of electricity in the winter, I don't see the cost savings myself. Plus - can any of you see me keeping chickens?

Amelie's birthday party 4/11

5 candles already?  What did you wish for?

Eerily quiet, it didn't last...
